Educational Video
I chose to make an instructional video about my favorite workout studio: Pure Barre. Watch the video to learn all about the barre-influenced exercise. I used Adobe Premiere Pro to make and edit my video, since I had it available to use.
Here is a list of all the manipulations I made to the media:
Once I decided on a Pure Barre instructional video, I found more than 12 high resolution still images to use in my video and properly cited them. I then organized them in a way that made sense and created a storyboard I wrote a script and outlined which parts of the text would pair with which images. I also edited the script, so it would not be over two minutes in length. With my introduction and credits, my video runs a little over two minutes. I added a white background to three of my images that did not fully fit the screen. My formal title appears at the front of the video using the classic pure barre logo in red. I made a credits page using a white background. I added my image and audio resource links.
Video Effect 1: I used the Gaussian Blur effect at the beginning of my video-it starts off with the pure barre logo really blurry before becoming crisp and clear. I added the Gaussian Blur effect to the image and adjusted the blurriness to 125% at the beginning. Towards the center of the frame, I adjusted the blurriness to 0%, so the logo is easily visible.
Zooming 1: Once the pure barre logo became visible, I added a zooming effect by adjusting the scale to 125%.
7 Integrated Screen Captions: I made a red and black rectangle in Adobe Photoshop to use as a background for white text. I adjusted the position of the red and black rectangle, so it would easily transition in and out of the frame at certain times. I also added the white text on top of the rectangle and added a blur effect, so it would transition onto the screen and out of the screen as well. I added two additional screen captions to Pure Empower and Pure Reform. The screen captions are meant to help viewers easily see what exercise is being performed during the video. This helps viewers see if the picture is describing the pure barre warm up, arms, thighs, seat, abs, or cool down exercises, as well as which exercises are associated with pure empower and pure reform.
Zooming 2: I used the zooming effect again for my last image. I changed the scale at the beginning of the frame to 80% and adjusted the scale to 110% half-way through. I also added a slight zoom on each image.
Video Effect 2: I added a strobe light effect to one of the beginning images to align with the beat of the background music. I also added a lot of images at the beginning to go with the beat of the background music, as well.
Transition Effect 1: In order to transition from the cool down pure barre exercise to the pure empower logo, I used a video effect under “dissolve” called “dip to white”. This changed the end of the cool down video to white, which transitioned smoothly with the pure empower logo background.
Transition Effect 2: In order to transition from the pure empower image to the pure reform image, I used a similar transition effect called “dip to black” under the “dissolve” category. This changed the transition screen to black, which tied the two images together nicely. I tried a lot of different transition effects but none of them tied together as smoothly as the dip to black. Furthermore, for my 3rd transition effect, I added cross dissolve to all of the images, so they would all flow nicely.
Narration: I recorded the narration on Adobe Audition, imported it into Premiere, and aligned it with the images. I also altered the soundtrack music so I could extend it.
I created an instructional video about the Pure Barre workout, since many people do not understand what it is or how hard of a workout it is! I wanted to really cover the main focus of the class and exercises to help people understand the purpose of pure barre. I also wanted to quickly review the two other classes offered so people understand that you can have variety in your workout, even at Pure Barre. Since the workouts are very intense and upbeat, I wanted my video to convey this; I approached this through upbeat music and lots of images. I had not edited video in multiple years so this was a new experience for me. I chose to use Adobe Premiere, since it was available to me. I had to learn how to use this new software and learned about a lot of interesting video effects that I incorporated into my video.
